Welcome one and all to the Glendive, Montana Geo Coin Challenge. I am your host, Teewinot, and I will be your tour guide for this event. Any questions, concerns, hints, praises, or curses, please email me through geocaching.com or call me directly at (406) 365-7933. For those few cachers that have already found 8 of these caches, you may email me and I will give you the passwords. I will verify that you have logged these caches first of course. This is the first Glendive coin event and based on how well this year goes, this could be an annual event. Here is a link to the Chamber website, GLENDIVE, and here is a link to the Makoshika State Park site to find camping and all kinds of fun stuff, MAKOSHIKA, Here is the scoop on the event:

The Glendive Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture has minted 100 trackable, customized Geo Coins. This event will officially kick off FRIDAY, AUGUST 8TH AND WILL RUN UNTIL THE COINS ARE GONE!!! That is so cool you say, how can I get my hands on one of those coins? It's easy.

There are 10 caches placed throughout the city of Glendive and the Makoshika State Park that are part of this event. (PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU ARE NOT A MONTANA RESIDENT AND YOU CHOOSE TO DO THE CACHES IN MAKOSHIKA STATE PARK, THERE IS A $5.00 ENTRANCE FEE. IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE THOUGH, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND DRIVING THROUGH AND IT IS WELL WORTH $5.00.) You only need to find 8 caches to earn a coin. Each cache will have a password inside the cache container written on laminated paper. You will sign the logbook proving that you were there, then write down the password and move on to the next cache. After finding 8 caches, you make a break for the nearest establishment that has coins available. Well where are those places you ask? Let me tell you.

The first place is at the Chamber of Commerce located on Merrill Avenue. The Chamber of Commerce is open Monday-Friday 9-12, 1-5. What if you are a weekend warrior? No problem, you have more choices.

For Saturday, you can stop by a great local business called Sod House Sundries. Sod House Sundries specializes in all kinds of salsa's and BBQ sauces. Try as many as you like. Their hours of operation are Saturday 10-4.

For Sunday, stop by NAPA Auto Parts to get your coin. They are located across the street from Sod House Sundries. Their hours of operation are Sunday 12-4.

The following links will take you to the 10 caches in this event. Below these links are the waypoint codes and a section to input the password. You must turn this into one of the coin collection establishments to claim your coin. These establishments will also have copies that you can fill out if you forget to print this. Having the correct password with the correct waypoint code would be very much appreciated.

The official rules are posted here:

Glendive Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture 2008 Official rules for Glendive Coin Challenge. Glendive Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture (GCCA) has minted 100 trackable Geocoins. To receive a coin, geocachers must find 8 specific geocaches in the city of Glendive. Only one coin per cacher and/or caching family. Even if a family of 5 has different geocaching names for family members, only one coin will be given to the family. The purpose of this rule is that there are only 100 coins and GCCA wants as many people as possible to come for the coin. Coins will not be mailed and/or held for Geocachers. Geocachers must claim coin during business hours of the GCCA, Sod House Sundries, and NAPA. Geocachers must be physically present to receive coin. A geocacher may not pick up a coin for another geocacher. Please adhere to all geocaching.com rules and regulations regarding Geocaching. There will be daily updates on the cache page so everyone knows how many coins are left.

Please adhere to them so that the town embraces events like this instead of running geocachers out of town. I have worked hard to build a relationship with the town and make geocaching fun, please respect that at all times.

At the end of Week 1 (Aug. 15th), 10 coins had already been found, leaving 90 still out there. The last count was October 10th and there were 48 coins left to be found.

Without further delay, please enjoy the event. Find some caches, enjoy the outdoors, get a coin, and see the badlands. What more could you ask for. Good luck and have fun!
